Fall 2008 Running Season
Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Maryann is already scheduled to be touring some campuses for Women's History Month 2009 but now is the time to think of fall semester 2008! With Hillary Clinton's unprecedented run for the White House recently completed, there is much women-and-politics material to examine.

Fall 2008 screening dates will be posted soon.

A Degree for Schlafly
Tuesday, May 06, 2008

Controversy is again swirling around one of "Running in High Heels" interview subjects.

Anti-feminist Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum (among other things) is set to be awarded an honorary degree alongside Quincy Jones and Chris Matthews on May 16th by Washington University of St. Louis.

Students and faculty have organized and asked the chancellor to rescind the invite. Plus, over 1000 members have quickly joined the Facebook group"No honorary doctorate for anti-feminist Phyllis Schlafly" to protest the award.

Still, there are many students - born in the 80s, well after Schlafly's hey day - who don't understand what all the fuss is about. To help bring the less familiar up to speed, we've posted a couple of select clips of Mrs. Schlafly's appearance in "Running" here.

Femcha Meets Pamplona in Amsterdam
Friday, March 07, 2008

When Maryann Breschard named her political documentary "Running in High Heels" it was supposed to be a METAPHOR. However, women have often proved that they will use their freedom and power to do stupid things to prove their femininity as men sometimes do stupid things prove their masculinity. Hence, we have the Stiletto Run.

The third annual "run" was held yesterday in Amsterdam. This year was marked by some Dutch doctors issuing warnings in advance that running in high heels is dangerous (really?) and only women who have properly trained (whatever that is) should attempt it as high heels are specifically designed to be difficult to run in (double duh!).

When one sees the pictures of those Dutch gals striding with fear and speed down the street, it's hard not to think that the event is missing something -- like those friendly bulls the boys have in their run in Pamplona.

Maybe next year the EU can get on this for a combo event. Hopefully the Nike Air Manolo will be out by then. And this year's runners will be allowed to compete even if they still have pins in their ankles.

As for the U.S., if Hillary would agree to run backwards, perhaps we can settle the battle between Clinton and Obama in a way that doesn't include super-delegates.

Hillary Wins New Hampshire
Tuesday, January 08, 2008

At this time, when we finally have the first truly viable woman running for the Oval Office, we found her scrutinized for a normal flash of anger and indignation displayed by many a male candidate over the years: Clinton gets steely and the MSM and bloggers go hyperbolic. When Clinton displays a hint of tears, the MSM and bloggers discuss whether she's manipulative or simply unhinged.

Then they predicted her dead and buried. Her campaign was declared desperate and all but over.

Well, New Hampshire proved they were all wrong and a large part of it was because women turned out to support their fellow woman.

Women are the majority of the population (and have been since the 1950s) and are vastly under-represented in our government. Supporting a woman is an act of justice and balance and hopefully a step towards more representative representation for women. Women too need change and hope.

It's about time that the majority of the country had some representation in the White House!

Thank you to our campuses in New Hampshire who have included screenings of Running in High Heels in their fall semesters:

Dartmouth College
Keene State College
Plymouth State University
